For the first time the Committee of the Regions awarded the EGTC Prize ‘Building Europe across borders’ on February 18th, 2014 to recognize distinguished and successful landmark projects, carried out by European Grouping of Territorial Cooperations (EGTCs). The EGTC “European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino, one of 41 EGTCs in Europe, was awarded the second rank among 9 submissions in total.

Mr. Günther Platter, President of the EGTC “European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino” and Governor of Tyrol, was delighted: “The recognition of the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino for the Euregio Youth Festival confirms that our EGTC is providing tangible benefits for every individual citizen of our three member states, in particular for our youth.”

The Euregio Youth Festival is an intercultural meeting place, providing a discussion forum for youngsters, aged between 16 and 19 years, of all three territories of the European Region. Since its first edition in 2012 it has been organized yearly by the Common Bureau of the EGTC. Every year 100 youngsters from all parts of the European Region gather at three venues in three different towns of the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino for spending a weekend together. During that weekend they discuss topics relevant to their future in presence of experts. The Euregio Youth Festival enables the participating juveniles to think beyond state borders, to broaden their horizon and to meet new friends.

Mr. Herwig Van Staa (AT/EPP), President of the State Parliament of Tyrol, congratulated the EGTC in his role as Political Coordinator of the EGTC Platform: ”The EGTC ‘European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino’ is met with a great deal of interest on an European level, because its three member states, Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino, can rely on far reaching legislative powers. The award-winning project of the European Youth Festival illustrates the EGTC’s capacity to realize land mark projects.”

The third edition of the “Euregio Youth Festival” is taking place between April 9th and April 12th, 2014 at Lienz (State of Tyrol), Bruneck (Autonomous Province of Bozen-South Tyrol) and Trento (Autonomous Province of Trento).
